About the event

Bat Walk at Cottonwood Park

Did you know that during certain times of the year, we have one of the largest known Nevada bat colonies right here in Sparks! During the warm summer months at dusk they awaken and emerge from their hiding places under the McCarren Bridge. We will observe them taking flight as their numbers form a dramatic sight against the darkening sky. We will meet at Cottonwood Park where we will have a bat info session and then walk along the Truckee River to the bridge to see the bats. This walk is open to people of all skill levels, ages, and backgrounds! We are committed to having a welcoming place for all members of our community.

If you can not make our bat walk you can still check out NDOW’s event calendar- www.ndow.org/calendar/ for other bat walks during August and September!

Leader: Jaida Marinas

Difficulty: Easy, paved path. Round trip the walk will be about a mile in length.
