Area Birding Guides

A team of dedicated Audubon birders have researched some of northern Nevada’s best bird watching hotspots and written these guides for your use.   Some of the descriptions, maps and directions provided here are based on A Birding Guide to Reno and Beyond, Second Edition, published by the Lahontan Audubon Society in 2007.  (The print guide can still be purchased from our online store.)  Since its publication, however, many new parks and bird watching areas have opened to the public so NNBA is in the process of adding them online.  If you are interested in volunteering for this project, sign up on our Volunteer Opportunities page.   For detailed species information and photographs, we recommend visiting All About Birds hosted by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology.

* Recognized by the National Audubon Society as a Nevada Important Bird Area  (IBA)

** This area lies within a Nevada IBA.
