About the event
Birds of Truckee Meadows Class Field Trip to Galena Creek
Difficulty: We will be walking a relatively narrow dirt trail through the forest and along the creek. Although the hike is not difficult, sturdy shoes are recommended. Please bring a hat, sunscreen and water to drink. Restrooms are available at the visitor center.
Leader: Jordan Juzdowski
When: Saturday May 9, 2026, 7:30 am
Description:
Explore the trails near the Galena Creek Visitor Center with Jordan Juzdowski. Jordan will help us find some of the birds he discussed in our first Birds of Truckee Meadows class, Birds of the Sierras! Walking the trail with an experienced birder, listening to songs, and seeing the birds in their natural habitat is one of the best ways to learn about birds and how to identify them. On this walk, we may get to see some of our coniferous forest birds like Steller's Jay, Pygmy Nuthatch, Red-shafted Flicker, Green-tailed Towhee, and White-headed Woodpecker. We may even get to see and hear the cheeseburger bird - the Mountain Chickadee!
