Idlewild Park Family Bird Walk

Join us for a family-friendly bird walk at Idlewild Park during the Riverside Farmer’s Market!

Time & Location

Aug 30, 2026, 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM

Idlewild Park, 2055 Idlewild Dr, Reno, NV 89509, USA

About the event

During our walk, we will hopefully observe some early fall migrant passerines (perching birds). Around the ponds and Truckee River, we may see Cormorants, Mallards, Canada geese, Common and Hooded Mergansers, Great Egrets, Black-crowned Night Herons, Ospreys, Belted Kingfishers, and maybe spot a Wood Duck.  Around the wooded areas, we will keep an eye out for Steller’s Jays, woodpeckers, Red-tailed Hawks, Mountain Chickadees, Lesser Goldfinches, Crows, and Robins.   After the walk, feel free to visit the Farmer’s Market and see our Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance booth. We will have some birds from our taxidermy bird collection on display.

Leader: Steven Cavros

Difficulty: Easy 1-2 miles on mostly level ground.  We will be walking in the grass as well as on paved trails and roads.
