Lake Davis Kayaking & Birding 

Difficulty: Experienced kayakers only.

Leaders: Valerie Andersen and Jo Ann Cobb.

When: Monday, September 14, 2026. 7:15 am for those who want to caravan from Golden Valley and 8:30 am for those meeting at Coot Bay. (~ 3 - 4 hours).

Description: Meeting at 8:30 at Lake Davis & departing in our kayaks by 9am, we will follow the shoreline looking for birds & other wildlife. (After you register, we will tell you what cove, etc.)  American Bald Eagles, Ospreys, American White Pelicans, Western Grebes, Pied-billed grebes, Canada Geese, and Brewer’s Blackbirds are frequently seen here.  At some point, we will go ashore to stretch our legs & get a snack.  The trip will run from 3 - 4 hours depending on the group & weather.  If you would like to caravan from Golden Valley, we will meet at 7:15 -- more details available post-registration.

About Lake Davis: Lake Davis is located 7 miles north of Portola, California. This lake was created in 1967 for recreational opportunities with over 28 miles of shoreline.  The area offers boating, kayaking, camping, picnicking, fishing, swimming, and wildlife viewing. Waterskiing and jet skis are not permitted.

What to bring: Your kayak (sorry, we don't have any to loan), water, sun screen, a lunch or snacks, a hat, sunglasses, and of course, your binoculars (hopefully waterproof). You are required to wear a life jacket.
