Damonte Wetlands Field Trip

Difficulty: Easy, 3 miles on level paved path

The variety of trees, lakes, marshes, grass and urban environments at Damonte Wetlands are home to many different types of birds! We'll be doing a 3 mile walk on a flat, paved path.

Leaders: Amanda Pertsch and Jaida Marinas

We should expect to see lots of Red-winged Blackbirds, as well as several other types of songbirds, like sparrows, wrens, phoebes, swallows and warblers. We’ll also get to see hawks and Kestrels. There are a large variety of shorebirds, wading birds and waterfowl as well, including temporary visitors such as Avocets and Stilts. Some other fun birds we might see include Yellow-headed Blackbirds, Meadowlarks, Kingbirds and Rail.

This walk is open to people of all identities and all levels of birding (beginner, advanced etc.). Specifically, this walk welcomes members of the LGBTQIA+ community, allies, and family members who want to enjoy the outdoors together. We recognize that members of the LGBTQIA+ community have been historically excluded and underrepresented in birding and the outdoors. We want to change this and create a welcoming place where people of all identities can feel they belong.
