During the walk Elisa Garcia will guide us through poetry exercises to help us connect with and reflect on the space around us.

Virginia Lake, Reno, NV 89509, USA
About the event
Please join the Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance and Elisa Garcia for a community poetry bird walk at Virginia Lake!
We will identify a variety of waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors that call this place home. This walk is open to people of all identities and all levels of birding (beginner, advanced etc.). Specifically, this walk welcomes members of the LGBTQIA+ community, allies, and family members who want to enjoy the outdoors together. We recognize that members of the LGBTQIA+ community have been historically excluded and underrepresented in birding and the outdoors. We want to change this and create a welcoming place where people of all identities can feel they belong.
During the walk Elisa Garcia will guide us through poetry exercises to help us connect with and reflect on the space around us.
Along the walk, we will spend time picking up trash along the river. Please bring gloves if you have them. Trash bags will be provided. Let's show solidarity with the River Justice movement, respect our downstream neighbors, and help make our cherished birding spots safe and clean for the wildlife we love!
Leader: Jaida Marinas
Difficulty: Easy 1 mile on some uneven paved trails.
Meeting Location: We will be meeting in the parking lot of Virginia Lake by the exercise equipment in the Northwest section.
Binoculars will be provided!
