About the event
Let's Go Birding Together at Rancho San Rafael Park
Leader: Jaida Marinas
When: Sunday, May 24th, 8:00-10:00am
Description:
Please join the Northwest Nevada Bird Alliance for a community bird walk at Rancho San Rafael! Binoculars will be provided. Meeting spot will be at the parking lot outside of the Wilbur D. May museum at Rancho San Rafael Park.
We will identify a variety of songbirds, raptors, woodpeckers, and waterfowl that call this park home. This walk is open to people of all identities and all levels of birding (beginner, advanced etc.). Specifically, this walk welcomes members of the LGBTQIA+ community, allies, and family members who want to enjoy the outdoors together. We recognize that members of the LGBTQIA+ community have been historically excluded and underrepresented in birding and the outdoors. We want to change this and create a welcoming place where people of all identities can feel they belong.
Along the walk, we will spend time picking up trash along the river. Please bring gloves if you have them. Trash bags will be provided. Let's show solidarity with the River Justice movement, respect our downstream neighbors, and help make our cherished birding spots safe and clean for the wildlife we love!
