About the event
August Program: Bring Back the Pollinators
Pollinators are incredibly important for the flowers we love, the food we eat, and for other wildlife. Join Susan Kaiser, Xerces Society Ambassador, as she explores the world of native bees, their life histories, threats, and simple actions you can take to help conserve them. The Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation is an international nonprofit organization that protects the natural world through the conservation of invertebrates and their habitats.
Speaker: Susan Kaiser, Xerces Society Ambassador
Susan Kaiser is a native Nevadan and lifelong nature lover. While earning a B.S. in Biology at UNR, she worked as an assistant with the State Entomologist at the Nevada Department of Agriculture. She applied her degree working as a secondary science teacher for 25 years including managing a 10,000 square foot school garden at Pine Middle School in Reno. Her lessons incorporated various outdoor learning activities and Citizen Science opportunities. After retiring in 2019, Mrs. Kaiser began volunteering as a Xerces Ambassador teaching others the value of invertebrates through presentations and event visits. In 2024, she joined the Mountain States Bumble Bee Atlas, a conservation initiative led by the Xerces Society. This effort recruits volunteers as citizen scientists to help gather data on the number and species of bumble bees living in Nevada.
